| Eyelid lumps and swelling (Chalazion) |
| A Chalazion can form from a blocked oily gland in the eyelid
margin. It can flare up quickly, causing pain and redness or it may
enlarge slowly. A Chalazion may shrink without treatment and become painless,
however its core frequently remains intact. This can lead to the Chalazion
flaring up again. |
This condition can be treated with a minor operation to remove the
contents of the original blocked gland (incision and curettage). Alternatively,
Chalazia can be treated by a steroid injection. |
