Eyelids
The eyelids are host to a wide range of problems. An oculoplastic surgeon with special expertise in the eye and the eye region is well equipped to provide appropriate treatment and undertake cosmetic eyelid surgery.
Irritable eyelids - This common inflammatory condition (Blepharitis) affects the eyelids. Signs and symptoms include sandy or itchy eyes and red or swollen eyelids.
Droopy upper eyelid - In its congenital form this eyelid condition (Ptosis) can be either inherited or an isolated birth defect. It can also be acquired later in life.
Ageing eyelids Lifting and recontouring, correcting their position on the eye. The ageing process can seriously affect eyelid appearance and visual function, requiring corrective surgery (Blepharoplasty). Other problems are an eyelid turned outwards (Ectropion) or an eyelid turned inwards (Entropion).
Eyelid lumps and swelling - This is a chronic inflammation of an eyelid oil gland (Chalazia) that stimulates the formation of a surrounding cyst.
Eyelid tumours and cancer - Eyelid cancers can appear as areas of elevation, depression, redness, scaliness, and dark or light discoloration. Any sore that refuses to heal is suspect.

Watering Eyes
When tears cannot drain away naturally through fine passages at the inner corner of the eyelids into the nose, the eye may become watery or get repeated infections.
Loss of eye
A tumour, severe trauma or constant pain from a blind eye may lead to eye removal. The surgeon first fits an orbital implant to fill the space. After a few weeks, an oculist fits an artificial eye.
Thyroid eye disease
A malfunctioning thyroid gland that produces too many or too few hormones can affect the eyes in several ways. It can make the eyes protrude forward, cause the eye muscles to swell up and retract the upper eyelids.
Botox and fillers
Natural and safe substances are injected under the skin. They are effective in smoothening out deep facial lines and rejuvenating the face for many months.
